Cheese, bacon or vegan, many people are convinced that there isn’t anything in the world quite so delightful as the first bite of a rich, juicy hamburger. Actually, even vegetarians couldn’t resist the taste of a tasty burger; they had to create an alternative so that they wouldn’t have to leave all that was good and right about the world in the past. Hamburger Day celebrates the history of this most irresistible of sandwiches.

But why are hamburgers so amazing? The truth is, a burger is a universal food; it’s a food that has many forms; it’s a food that brings people together, and ultimately it’s loved.
THE HISTORY OF HAMBURGER DAY
The invention of the hamburger has been claimed by so many that there’s only one real origin. Hamburg, Germany. No matter who says they invented the hamburger, no one can deny that it was the second-largest city in Germany that was its namesake. While not all types of ‘burgers’ resemble the meat that came out of Hamburg, they all have the roots of their preparation in this noble city.
Hamburgers have come to be a symbol of all that is right in the world in the modern-day. Barbecue’s where families gather, surprise rewards by your boss, a quick bite to eat on your lunch break, or the first date shared with a new potential partner. All of these things can, and often do, include the hamburger in any one of a million of its potential preparations. Today, many people all around the world are going to celebrate this popular food during the Hamburger Day.
HAMBURGERS COMING IN ALL KINDS
Burgers no longer are made from just beef either, these days you can find Turkey Burgers, Buffalo Burgers, Chicken Burgers, Emu Burgers, any of a million forms of meat all ground down and compacted into this most recognizable form, the ‘hamburger’.
VEGGIE BURGER LEADING THE WAY
Seemingly everyone has a plant-based offering these days in the USA: White Castle, for example, made a splash when it introduced the Impossible Slider a few years ago, and since then other fast food behemoths have followed suit – just last year Burger King entered the arena with its Impossible Whopper.
Moreover, the consumption of plant-based meat is nowadays increasing in the USA as a result of the closure of several meat production plants after cases of coronavirus infection among employees. Prices have also skyrocketed, growing by +14% in the first week of May compared to the same period last year, with a forecast of +20% at the beginning of the summer.

This could benefit the two largest producers and market leaders in plant-based meat, Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods, who have long been working to bring the prices of their products closer to those of real meat.
HAMBURGERS IN ITALY
According to the data recorded by Deliveroo, in Italy hamburger is now the second top requested kind of food kitchen, behind only the Italian typical food, front of other great ‘champions’ of food delivery such as poke, sushi and ice cream.
Among the favourite types, besides the classic hamburger at the top of the list we find the cheeseburger in the single and double version, the chicken burger and the bacon cheeseburger. Then comes the veggie, which, with the growing affirmation of vegetarian and vegan food styles, represents a growing trend in this world too, with orders growing by 13% from the beginning of the lockdown due to coronavirus to the present day.
