In the United States, food serves as a conduit for events that champion products of distinction and their regions of origin. Among these, “The Texas Restaurant Show” in San Antonio stands out, set in a land famed for its sprawling ranches and livestock heritage.
On July 14th and 15th, the Texas Restaurant Association will host its annual exhibition, attracting restaurateurs, chefs, and industry executives. This year, two esteemed Italian PDO products will take center stage: Grana Padano and Prosciutto di Parma, showcased at booth no. 741 by their respective Consortia. This event forms part of a joint promotional campaign aimed at enlightening American and Canadian retailers, chefs, and consumers about premier European food products. Notably, Grana Padano PDO remains the most consumed PDO product worldwide.
“Distinctly, Deliciously, European” is a European initiative emphasizing quality, authenticity, and tradition. Grana Padano and Prosciutto di Parma epitomize the value of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). The branding assures a supply chain rooted in expertise, confined to specific production areas, utilizing age-old techniques to create products that achieve excellence only within their traditional territories.
“The U.S. and Canada rank among the top ten importers of Grana Padano PDO, and we see substantial opportunities for further expansion,” states Stefano Berni, General Director of the Consortium for the Protection of Grana Padano. “However, despite trade agreements between Canada and the EU, and vigilant monitoring in the U.S. by our protection services, the issue of ‘Italian sounding’ persists. We invite consumers to visit our booth, taste the authentic Grana Padano PDO, and recognize its inimitable quality. Even in the storied land of Texas, we hope they discern the true choice.”
