The Consortium for the protection of Mortadella Bologna PGI has confirmed Corradino Marconi as president for the three-year period 2020-2023. This is his third consecutive term. “I am very honored – Marconi said – as it is the best recognition of the activity carried out so far. The last three years were in fact an extremely important period during which the Consortium has been engaged on several fronts.”

THE MORTADELLA BOLOGNA PGI CONSORTIUM COMMITMENT
In the last three years the Consortium has opened the Fabbrica Trasparente (Transparent Factory of Mortadella Bologna PGI) within FICO Eataly World agri-food park in Bologna. Without forgetting the inauguration of the Museum of History of Bologna – within Palazzo Pepoli – an entire wing of which is entirely dedicated to this cured meat.
In order to demonstrate that Mortadella Bologna “is worth more”, the Consortium worked hard to ensure the product’s quality. In fact, high-quality also guarantees consumers an increasingly good, safe and controlled Mortadella at every stage of the production process. The centre of gravity of the our market has also been shifted, with an increase in exports both to EU and non-EU countries. Finally, communication has been strengthened through numerous events, the most important one being the “Mortadella Day” – a day entirely dedicated to Mortadella Bologna PGI – which takes place in Bologna on October 24.

THE GOALS FOR THE FUTURE
On the occasion of his confirmation, Mr Marconi outlined the Consortium’s main goals for the next three years. First of all, the Consortium is to take action against devaluation practices meaning all those initiatives, including commercial ones, which present concrete risks of devaluing the image of the PGI product. A further goal is to further improve the quality of Mortadella Bologna in order to offer a product that can meet the consumers’ needs. The development on export markets will also continue. Finally, there will be a stronger attention to ethical and environmental sustainability within Mortadella’s production methods.
