U.S. and Australian markets drive demand for an Italian culinary staple. Prosciutto San Daniele PDO continues to thrive in 2024, mirroring the strong growth seen in 2023.

PROSCIUTTO SAN DANIELE PDO PRODUCTION

In 2023, production of Prosciutto San Daniele PDO reached 2.59 million hams, processed in 31 facilities in San Daniele del Friuli. The hams are sourced from 3,510 certified farms across ten regions in northern and central Italy, and supplied by 44 slaughterhouses within the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) system.

EXPORTS

Exports grew in 2023, accounting for 19% of total sales, with three million kilos of ham shipped overseas. The European Union absorbed 55% of exports, while the remaining 45% went to non-EU markets.

Pre-sliced ham sales also rose, with 21.3 million certified trays sold, equivalent to 407,000 hams and more than two million kilos of product. Revenues remain stable at around €360 million, maintaining the level seen after a 14% rise in 2022.
