For several years now, PGI Speck has been gaining increasing notoriety in international markets. This has led the Consortium to protect the denomination outside the European Union as well, continuing the study of trademarks registered under the names “Speck”, “Alto Adige”, and “Südtirol” in the deli meats category. From the end of 2021, thanks to the trade agreement with the EU, this product will also be protected in Japan with a controlled denomination.
