Italy, in particular Alto Adige and the entire North, was once again the largest sales market for Speck Alto Adige PGI in 2021, with a 66.3% share. However, demand for this product is growing in the southern regions as well as abroad.

With a 33.7% share, the South Tyrolean cured meat is one of the most exported Italian deli meats. Especially in Germany (28.9%) and the USA (1.9%), where the popularity of this product has grown in recent years. For several years now, speck has been gaining increasing notoriety on international markets. This has led the Consortium to protect the designation also outside the European Union as well, continuing its study of trademarks registered under the names ‘Speck’, ‘Alto Adige’, and ‘Südtirol’ in the cured meat product category. Starting with Japan, with which the EU has signed a trade agreement at the end of 2021.
