Il Pastaio, the Brescia-based leader in high-quality gnocchi and pasta production, has commenced construction on its first U.S. facility. The Allenwood, Pennsylvania, plant will span over 6,600 square meters and employ 75 people at launch. The facility will feature five production lines dedicated to traditional and stuffed gnocchi, including gluten-free options, with the potential to produce organic variants.
The company, which markets private-label products alongside its brands Patarò and Canuti Tradizione Italiana, operates four plants in Italy, one dedicated solely to gluten-free production. With a production capacity of 100,000 tons annually, Il Pastaio employs more than 300 people and continues to expand.
“Breaking ground in Pennsylvania is a significant milestone for us,” said CEO Pierluigi Colombi. “It represents our commitment to merging Italy’s culinary traditions with the agricultural energy of the U.S. market. We are eager to bring our craftsmanship to a new generation of American consumers. This venture is not only an investment in the future, but also a celebration of authentic Made-in-Italy in a country full of opportunity.”
The new facility, supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), will be located in the Great Stream Commons Business Park, a strategic site within a Keystone Opportunity Zone, offering significant benefits. This expansion will also help meet the growing demand for gnocchi in the U.S. market.
