Prosciutto San Daniele PDO reaffirmed its position in 2023 as one of the most recognized and consumed Protected Designation of Origin foods in Italy, Europe, and globally.
Last year, production reached 2.59 million legs, produced in thirty-one facilities in San Daniele del Friuli, generating a total revenue of €360 million.
Exports comprised 19% of total sales, with approximately three million kilograms shipped abroad. Of these exports, 55% went to the European Union, while 45% were destined for non-EU countries. France, the United States, Australia, Germany, and Belgium were confirmed as the leading export markets by volume. Other significant markets included Switzerland, Austria, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, and Canada. In 2023, notable growth in export volumes was seen in the United States (+11%), Australia (+7%), the United Kingdom (+30%), and the Czech Republic (+18%).
The number of trays of pre-sliced Prosciutto San Daniele PDO exceeded 21.3 million certified packs, equivalent to 407,000 hams (over two million ham kilograms). This sales format’s popularity reflects shifting consumption trends and customer preferences.
