The event, slated for Tokyo from March 5 to 8, stands as Japan’s paramount agri-food exposition.

Japan stands as the seventh-largest global market for tomato preserves, ranking second only to the USA among non-European nations. In 2023, the export ledger to Japan notched an impressive +18% in value compared to the preceding year, amassing 120 million euros, constituting 4.3% of the global export pie amounting to 2.8 billion euros. The upward trajectory wasn’t confined to Japan alone, as the broader Asian market witnessed a +19% surge, reaching approximately 270 million euros, and accounting for 9.6% of the total export landscape.

Giovanni De Angelis, the Director-General of Anicav, remarked, “The Japanese marketplace stands out as a pivotal export destination for our canned tomatoes, revered for their unblemished quality and innate authenticity, particularly in the realm of whole peeled tomatoes. Despite prevailing geopolitical tensions that might exert pressure on costs, the Japanese market continues to wield substantial strategic significance for our sector. Hence, the ‘Red Gold from Europe – Excellence in EU Preserved Tomatoes’ initiative assumes paramount importance, serving as a linchpin to fortify and amplify the footprint of our products, which have already garnered substantial recognition and favor among Japanese consumers.”
