A series of tastings of the Italian specialty was presented to journalists and food bloggers at a special press dinner, organized at Vinotek by Geisel at the Hotel Excelsior in Munich

On the occasion of the third year of the Nice To Eat EU project, the Consortium for the Protection of Piave PDO cheese has turned the spotlight on Munich, Germany to disclose and appreciate all the peculiar characteristics of the typical PDO product from the Northeast of Italy.

The event was organized to enhance the history and flavors of this typical cheese from Northeastern Italy, with a specially dedicated menu and a staff of professionals on-site to tell and explain every aspect of the product: from the production area to the processing techniques, from the characteristics of the cows’ breeds that produce the milk to the different maturation periods. There was also a look at the activities of the Consortium, always committed to the defense of the product from counterfeiting and to the enhancement of its unique characteristics.

The dinner, held at Vinotek of Excelsior Hotel in Munich, was accompanied and presented by German journalist Jossi Loibl, who specialized in wines and cheeses and answered with mastery to the attendees’ many curiosities.

THE MENU

In the menu of the evening 4 of the 5 Piave PDO references were tasted:

  • Piave Fresco
  • Piave Mezzano
  • Piave Vecchio
  • Piave Selezione Oro

Each one was exalted in the best way in the different preparations. Here are the details of the dishes prepared for the press dinner:

  • Tasting of Piave Cheese PDO (Fresco and Vecchio)
  • Carpaccio with Piave Cheese PDO (Mezzano) and rocket salad
  • Spinach ravioli with Piave Cheese PDO (Fresco and Vecchio) and Jerusalem artichokes
  • Neck of pork spaetzle with Piave PDO cheese (Vecchio, Mezzano, and Oro)
  • Chocolate mousse with figs and Piave PDO cheese foam (Oro)


The wine pairings were also very appreciated. The dinner ended with a gift to all attendees: a shopper signed Nice To Eat EU and Piave Cheese PDO with information material, gadgets of the project, and a beautiful Bitossi-themed plate.
