Last year’s sales of Montasio PDO cheese exceeded the most optimistic expectations. Production and sales grew by more than +10%, for a totalconsumer turnover of 56 million euros. More than 925,000 cheese wheels were produced – the target was 900,000 – compared to 838,568 in 2019.

Despite the difficulties due to the pandemic and the limitations imposed on the Ho. Re. Ca. sector – says the president of the protection Consortium, Valentino Pivettaconsumption of Montasio PDO keeps growing thanks to its distinctive and unique characteristics.” The features of this typical cheese from the Northeastern Italy are rooted in uncontaminated environment, peculiar climate, excellent raw material, but also processing, technology and craftsmanship. As the director of the Consortium, Renato Romanzin, puts it “Montasio PDO is a perfect ally for health and wellness thanks to its natural features: in fact, it is naturally lactose-free. Consumers love this product, especially in its medium aging – after 120 days – when it matures in taste and harmony of flavors.”

In order to emphasize the importance of the supply chain traceability and the sustainability, the Consortium has offered its producers the opportunity to join the “IosonoFVG” project, the trademark that aims to give impetus to the entire regional dairy supply chain and make the market recognize its value. The Consortium’s program will further enhance its promotional plan, which will also be extended to neighboring Austria.
