NutrInform Battery logo is now official

The Italian voluntary food labeling model is based on clear, simple and complete information, which allows consumers to make fully informed choices for their nutrition
NutrInform Battery logo is now official

The Italian Minister of Agriculture Teresa Bellanova has signed the decree that officially introduces the optional nutritional logo called NutrInform Battery, aimed at making it easier for consumers to read the nutritional information of food products and to establish the rules for its use.

The logo indicates the content of energy, fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt present in a single portion of food. In addition, the “battery” symbol indicates the percentage of energy, fat, saturated fat, sugars and salt provided by a single portion compared to the recommended daily intake.

Now we expect our system to be properly evaluated by Europe from a scientific point of view, as a national experience” – said Minister Bellanova. “NutrInform is our alternative food labeling to Nutriscore, but it is much better. It is not penalizing, it does not give good or bad licenses: it is just made to inform.”

The Nutrinform Battery labeling excludes PDO, PGI and TGS product, due to the risk that an additional logo could prevent consumerd from recognizing the GI denomination trademark.
