According to the Italian Ministry of Agricolture’s figures, based on the latest Istat data on foreign trade, Made in Italy food exports reached 37,6 billion euros in the period January – November 2017, with a growth of more than 7% compared to the same period of 2016. In November alone, Italian food exports reached 3.9 billion euros, which is 8.5% more compared to 2016. These data show that in November, compared to October 2017, there has been an overall increase in both exports (+ 2.1%) and, to a lesser extent, imports (+ 1.4%).
Target: 50 billion
In 2017 Italian food exports will exceed 40 billion euros – said Minister Maurizio Martina – thus showing the strength of Made in Italy in the world. We have been able to face the crisis by opening new trade opportunities worldwide. The goal of 50 billion export sales by 2020 is getting closer, thanks above all to the ability of our small and medium-sized enterprises to look beyond national borders. In order to protect and promote their productions, we must go on strengthening rules in open markets where origin, distinctiveness, and quality are the key factors to increase competitiveness. All those who talk about tariffs and customs barriers put at risk the economic systems which give life to these good results.
