Through its Food Business Unit, today Bolton Food Group has officially inaugurated its Food Research & Innovation Center, marking a significant milestone in the company’s long-term strategy to foster positive change and sustainable development in the seafood sector.

Based in Singapore and supported by Enterprise Singapore (ESG), the new Center is a strategic investment in scientific innovation. Its mission is to help address some of the most pressing challenges facing today’s food systems by developing research projects aimed at improving the sustainability, efficiency, and resilience of the entire seafood supply chain.

Bolton Food operates globally in the seafood sector with a fully integrated presence along the entire value chain, from fishing activities to finished products. This end-to-end model enables a systemic and holistic approach to sustainability, integrating product quality, environmental protection, and social responsibility at every stage of production.

For many years, Bolton Food has been committed to generating a positive impact in the seafood industry, driving change through transformative partnerships designed to promote more sustainable fishing practices, protect marine ecosystems, safeguard human rights along the supply chain, and protect consumer health. The launch of the Center represents a further step forward in this journey. It will serve as a platform to deepen scientific understanding of the impacts of seafood products on people and the environment, translating this knowledge into concrete solutions to optimize resource use, reduce waste, and strengthen the resilience of food systems.

Established as a permanent, non-profit entity, the Bolton Food Research & Innovation Center is dedicated to promoting science-based innovation for the benefit of the entire seafood industry. The Center will actively collaborate with universities and research institutes in Singapore, with the ambition of delivering a lasting impact on global challenges such as malnutrition and food security, resource optimization, and marine ecosystem conservation.

Initially, the Center’s research activities will focus on three core areas:

  • Fish-Value valorization: maximizing the use of fish resources through advanced research to improve yield efficiency and transform processing by-products and waste into high-value-added derivatives.
  • Seafood consumption and human health: strengthening scientific evidence on the role of seafood in sustainable nutrition, health maintenance and balanced diets, with particular attention to vulnerable populations.
  • Plastic reduction: developing solutions to reduce plastic use and contribute to the fight against marine plastic pollution.

The Center’s strategic location in Singapore leverages the country’s role as a global innovation hub, supported by advanced R&D infrastructure, strong institutional backing, and access to a highly skilled talent pool.

It reinforces Bolton Food’s leadership—a leadership that also entails the responsibility to generate real and positive impact. By enhancing our ability to understand, optimize, and continuously improve how seafood is produced and consumed, we aim to create value across the entire value chain, protect people’s health and marine ecosystems, and contribute to more resilient food systems.”

We are pleased to support Bolton Food in the launch of its first Research & Innovation Center, which reinforces Singapore’s role as a leading hub for trade and innovation,” commented Lee Pak Sing, Assistant Managing Director for Trade and Connectivity at Enterprise Singapore. “This milestone opens up new opportunities for collaboration with universities, research institutes, and Singapore-based agrifoodtech companies to jointly develop sustainable solutions.”
