A substantial 67.7% of Speck Alto Adige PGI production is sold within Italy (source: Protection Consortium, 2023), predominantly in South Tyrol. Beyond Italy’s borders, Germany stands as the primary export market for this cherished South Tyrolean delicacy. However, the most striking figure lies in its global reach: Speck Alto Adige PGI derives 32.5% of its consumer sales revenue from exports, positioning it among the world’s most exported cured meats. Besides Germany, it finds its way into the kitchens of France, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The growing popularity of Speck Alto Adige PGI is celebrated through numerous gastronomic events set in picturesque natural landscapes. Autumn heralds the Speck Festival, slated for September 28-29 this year at Plan de Corones in Bolzano. This open-air alpine museum will host two days of local delicacy tastings and live music. Additional occasions to savor this quintessential smoked South Tyrolean cured meat, alongside enthusiasts from around the globe, include Speck Day and SpeckAperitivo, held in both winter and spring editions.
