The Frantoio del Poggiolo olive mill, under the ownership of the Monini family, has clinched the title of the world’s premier organic olive mill in the 2023 ranking by the World’s Best Olive Oil. This prestigious global ranking hinges on cumulative scores garnered from the foremost eight international competitions for extra virgin olive oil. The competitions scrutinized by the Wboo association in the 2022-2023 campaign include Evooleum, Expoliva, Mario Solinas Award – Coi/Ioc, Ovi Beja, Leone D’Oro, ArgOliva, Sial Olive D’Or, and Sol D’Oro. For Monini, the Poggiolo Mill transcends its role as a mere production and milling facility – it stands as a crucible of innovation.
MONINI’S ORGANIC EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OILS
Within the confines of the Frantoio del Poggiolo mill, this Italian olive oil brand has embarked on groundbreaking experimentation with its line of organic extra virgin monocultivar oils: Coratina, Frantoio, and Nocellara (pictured).
The Coratina monocultivar secures the distinguished position of 2nd best organic extra virgin globally, while the Frantoio monocultivar claims the 5th spot. “Wboo serves as a true industry authority, and this acknowledgment underscores the pursuit of excellence even for an entity of our scale,” asserts Zefferino Monini, CEO of the family-run enterprise and visionary behind Monini’s extra virgin olive oils, in an interview with Corriere della Sera. “We are cognizant of our public image as an industrial brand, a term that, in common parlance, contrasts with the notion of craftsmanship. In reality, we represent a family business, spanning three generations, dedicated to crafting extra virgin olive oil with expertise and passion, upholding the highest quality standards across diverse product segments – from mass consumption to small-scale niche productions.”
THE STRATEGIC THRUST TOWARD EXPORT GROWTH
The World’s Best Olive Oil accolade could unfurl novel commercial avenues for Monini. “Bolstered by our robust distribution network, our ambition is to position our monocultivars prominently within premier international retail chains,” says Zefferino Monini. “We envisage substantial growth potential for this premium, made-in-Italy product in global markets.”
