The Gelato World Cup, the premier global championship in the realm of artisanal gelato, is revving up for its forthcoming showcase at the Sigep 2024 trade show (scheduled at the Rimini Exhibition Center from January 20 to 22). The competition is slated to unfold within the Gelato Arena located in Pavilion A5.

Marking its milestone tenth edition in 2024, the Gelato World Cup is orchestrated by the Gelato e Cultura association in collaboration with the Italian Exhibition Group. This edition introduces a suite of enhancements, featuring refined regulations and the integration of an international adjudication panel.

In a notable development concerning the judging process, the 2024 edition has forged a strategic alliance between the Gelato World Cup and the World Association of Chefs’ Societies (Worldchefs). The international panel will comprise distinguished members such as Carlo Sauber (Luxembourg), Ljubica Komlenic (Italy/Serbia), Gilles Renusson (USA, France), Ann Brown (Scotland), and Brendan Hill (Australia).

THE COMPETITION

With representation from 12 nations worldwide, fielding five contestants each for a total of 60 participants, we take pride in the global selection process, spotlighting one of the epitomes of Italian sweet art – the gelato,” underscores Sergio Dondoli, one of the adjudicators and Vice President of Gelato e Cultura.

To clinch victory, participants will grapple with seven gelato production challenges, and three artistic trials, and culminate in the creation of a final buffet where each team will showcase the culmination of their undertaken challenges.

As of the present, the participating teams include Argentina, Brazil, China, South Korea, Germany, Italy, Peru, Poland, Singapore, Taiwan, Hungary, and Mexico, the latter stepping in for Austria, which withdrew from the competition.
