Italy’s F&B exports continue to grow amid complex market scenario

In the first four months of this year, sales increased by +18.7 percent compared to the same period in 2021, according to data from research and analysis firm Nomisma

In spite of an extremely complex market scenario full of pitfalls, Italian Food & Beverage export sales continue to grow. After the +12% rise recorded in 2021 (growth in value compared to 2020), in the first four months of this year there was further exports growth, of almost +19% (compared to the same four-month period in 2021). This is what emerges from an analysis conducted by economic research firm Nomisma. “Purchases of Italian food products from the United Kingdom (+25%) and the European Union states (+23%) are increasing sharply, mainly thanks to imports from Eastern countries (Poland +66%, Czech Republic +34%),” Nomisma Agrifood Business Unit Manager Denis Pantini says.

Export sales are growing sharply in the United States (+19%), and falling in China (-29%) due to the economic slowdown and Covid’s “zero tolerance” containment policies. Sales in Russia are also downfalling significantly (-14%). Even without taking into account the sanctions applied following the invasion of Ukraine, the F&B goods destined for that market had already been severely restricted since 2014 after the embargo imposed on many food products exported by the European Union (in response to the sanctions the EU imposed after the invasion of Crimea).
