Purchases of Italian cheeses all over the world set another historical record. Exports, also driven by the reopening of restaurants, have increased by +7.5% in the first four months of 2021. According to an analysis by the Italian farmers association, Coldiretti, on the basis of Istat data, Italian cheeses exports recorded a value of over one billion euros during the period considered.
Approximately two thirds of Italian cheeses exports go to the European Union, where they marked a growth by +8.8%, while the United States are the main export market outside the EU (+12%). A result favored by the entry into force of the agreement for the suspension of duties related to the Airbus-Boeing dispute on March 11, 2021. Additional duties by 25% applied by the Trump administration had mainly affected Parmigiano Reggiano PDO, Grana Padano PDO, Gorgonzola PDO, Asiago PDO, Fontina PDO, and Provolone Valpadana PDO.
