Italian tomatoes become traceable thanks to blockchain

An innovative project started by Anicav and EZ Lab aims to certify the tomato supply chain in favor of safety and quality of puree, pulp and peeled tomatoes

Anicav and EZ Lab have started an experimental project for the use of the blockchain technology within the cultivation and marketing of Italian tomatoes. The goal is to enhance the production of high-quality tomatoes guaranteeing their origin, safety and social values to be transferred to the final consumer. All steps in the production and processing process will be certified.

The project will be launched by two Anicav-associated companies: Rodolfi Mansueto and Compagnia Mercantile d’Oltremare. EZ Lab has developed solutions such as AgriChain and AgriOpenData software platforms for the traceability and digital certification of agricultural products and the entire food chain.

The application of this blockchain based technology will also promote the foreign marketing of Made in Italy production, contributing to the fight against counterfeiting and Italian sounding. The monitoring will ensure the entire supply chain by identifying unfair practices.
