Prosecco: an Ambassador of Italian Style in Switzerland

Sales are growing in the Swiss market: +10.4% in the first half of 2018. Two events in Geneva featuring the winning combination of the Italian sparkling wine and Mozzarella: 'Taste' and 'The roads of Mozzarella'

Prosecco DOC arrived in Geneva as a guests of the fifth edition of Taste of Italy, the event dedicated to the promotion of wine production for the French-speaking Switzerland’s market. Last Monday and Tuesday wine lovers, journalists from all over the world, sommeliers, and restaurateurs could taste various Prosecco DOC labels that were presented in Geneva for the occasion. Ten companies acted as ambassadors of Venetian and Friulian sparkling wines in Switzerland: Biancavigna, Borga, Castello di Roncade, La Marca, Le Contesse, Le Rughe, Masottina, Tenuta Santomè, Torresella and Zonin.


The Swiss market is constantly growing – says Stefano Zanette, President of the Consortium -. Since 2017, sales of Prosecco DOC have grown from 36,155 to 40,627 hectolitres. In the first half of 2018 alone, growth was 10.4% reaching a market share of 3.2% on global exports. Moreover – adds Zanetteour collaboration with the Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO Consortium confirmed itself as a profitable choice. Not only in terms of protection but also for joint promotion. These two excellent Italian products are mutually valued, especially thanks to Italian chefs such as Saverio Sbaragli from the starred restaurant ‘Tosca’ in Geneva”.


On Tuesday 16 October, in fact, at Tosca restaurant the Italian taste was staged. On the occasion of the “Le Strade della Mozzarella” (The Roads of Mozzarella) event, an international congress of fine cuisine, the spotlight was on the two brightest stars of the Italian food industry: Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO and Prosecco DOC. Two exports champions that are beloved throughout the world. “We are honored – said chef Saverio Sbaraglito welcome two excellent products of Made in Italy. At our restaurant we don’t just cook for our customers. We also spread the culture of Italian cuisine. And we do it proposing the products of the Italian peninsula. Excellent foods that the whole world envies”.
