Zabar’s, the flavors of the Big Apple

The historic Upper West Side shop is a symbol of the food culture of New York: a city famous for its openness to various influences, beginning with Italian food
Zabar’s, the flavors of the Big Apple

Visited by an average 35,000 people a week, Zabar’s is for New Yorkers the ideal place to buy kitchen tools at affordable prices, or to enjoy a coffee that is famous throughout the city. But the real highlight of the Upper West Side store, situated between Broadway and 80th Street, is its wide selection of bagels, smoked fish, and fresh pasta of the day. The facility, which includes a supermarket and the adjacent café, and is managed by the third generation of the Zabar family, is famous for being able to amaze its customers with innovative products that are often imported from abroad. After all, products such as gnocchi, sundried tomatoes and various other delicacies, as well as coffeemakers, were first sold in New York by the Zabars. The historic gourmet food store, a true icon of the Big Apple that has been featured in some masterpieces of the American cinema, also displays plenty of Italian food.

Italian products

Among the Italian brands on the shelves, or available on its e-commerce platform, there is Auricchio provolone, Beretta salami, Rigoni di Asiago honey, Campanini rice, and Prosciutto di Parma. Recently another Italian company has reached Zabar’s shelf: the Venetian ‘gnocchi’ maker Master that has been focusing its efforts on North American market.
