Italian cold cuts, sustainability is the keyword

In times in which meat and cold cuts are in the limelight, the Italian industry responds by focusing on safety and sustainability, and embraces consumer demands for healthy and light food

2016 started positively for exports of Italian cold cuts, which, according to Istat data elaborated by Assica, have reached 37,910 tonnes (+ 7%) and a turnover of 306.1 million euro (+4.5%) between January and March. Consignments to the EU performed brilliantly, recording a + 7.1% in volume for over 31,350 tonnes and a + 4.1% in value worth 240.2  million euro. However, also trade with non-EU countries was excellent in the first quarter, despite the slowdown in world trade, reaching 6,560 tonnes (+ 6.3%) and 65.9 million euro (+ 6.2%).

The results of the first quarter confirm the positive ones of the previous year. A year that was notably marked by a media crisis with lurid headlines on meats and cold cuts. Hence, considerable effort has been devoted to provide accurate information about the sector and to evaluate the ingredients as well as Italian products, starting from values of sustainability and food safety.

For its part, the industry of meat and Italian cold cuts is able to offer fresh organic free-from produce, made with Italian meats whilst adhering to and respecting animal welfare regulations. On top of that, it offers light and healthy ready meals that are ideal for on-the-go-consumption and perfectly in line with the demands of Italian and European consumers.
