From January 1, 2025, all European Union markets will be required to display the origin of shelled dried fruits—such as almonds, hazelnuts, pistachios, and dried figs—on product labels. The new regulation also covers wild mushrooms, capers, and saffron, with the aim of enhancing transparency in the food sector.
“This is a significant step,” says Italy’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry. “It ensures consumers have clearer, more reliable information about the products they buy. The mandatory labeling will also help differentiate the product’s origin from its packaging location, a key win for Italy, consumers, and businesses focused on quality and excellence.”
