Italian-made herbs and spices are enjoying a good degree of success on international markets. This is also the result of the recent increase in pasta consumption and the newly rediscovered pleasure of home cooking as well as healthy Mediterranean tradition. This is what transpires from La Collina Toscana Export Manager Andrea Ghezzi’s market analysis: “Clearly, the use of these ingredients has increased, as has the use of spice and herb blends for ready-made recipes. Our Italian sourced products ensure a higher quality than many others on the market. Our aromas and flavors are very similar to those of fresh products, and this is perceivable even by beginner users. This is due to our exclusive low-temperature dehydration process, which preserves the organoleptic properties of the ingredients. We are also developing new, innovative packaging solutions meeting different usage needs for our products. As we are also very conscious about the issue of sustainability, our packaging ensures a lower environmental impact by using materials obtained from renewable, vegetable sources”.

In the US, the company supplies its own branded products to Wegman’s New York supermarket chain. It’s also active on several other fronts: “Our volumes are growing across the world,” states Ghezzi. “Sales of some of our Montosco branded products are rapidly increasing in Brazil, South Korea, and Japan. We have also recently entered the foodservice channel, and in 2020 we presented our new Montosco collection, which has already become a favorite with costumers”.
ITALIAN FOOD AWARDS 2021
Last October, La Collina Toscana won the 2021 edition of the Italian Food Award at Anuga in the Condiments category with its Montosco line. It is a new, natural, easy, and elegant way to keep spices in the kitchen with a beautiful and recyclable design packaging. Montosco’s new products are a range of organic, ready-to-use seasonings stored in a practical and orderly manner. Good to reduce waste and keep an eye on spice, the pack is designed to be stacked, to save space, and to decorate the kitchen.
“The innovation for consumers – said Alberto Ricci, CEO of La Collina Toscana – is our mission. It’s linked to the supply chain and packaging. In fact, we have chosen to realize a new pack for our condiments, which can now leave the pantry and stand out in the kitchen. This pack reflects our vision: we don’t want to use disposable products, instead, 100% recyclable and reusable to be a truly sustainable company. We have also invested in the photovoltaic system in our two plants and we are working on a new project to use packaging derived from sugar cane”.
