Available CLAL data about Italian dairy export sales for the first four months of 2019 show an increase of 0.4% in quantity and 13.8% in value, thanks to an increase in unit prices for cheese (+3.9%).
TOP GROWING CATEGORIES
The export sales boom of Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano is significant in this segment, with an increase of 4.9% in quantity and, more important, almost 17% in value. Germany, the United States and France are the top three destination markets for these typical Italian cheeses.
Exports of fresh and grated cheeses, as well as Pecorino, Fiore Sardo and Gorgonzola, were also good, as was the exports of milk and cream (+41.8% in quantity and +12.6% in volume), with Libya alone accounting for 45% of the market share – almost tripling import volumes between January and April 2019 compared to the same period of the previous year.
THE RISE OF DAIRY PRICES
The average monthly price of exported products in milk equivalent (ME) has risen from 76.71 euro per 100 kg in December 2018 to 80.67 in April. Overall, total exports in ME grew by 9.9% in the January-April 2019 period compared to the same period in 2018.
