The international wine and spirits sector continues to grapple with pressured consumption, geopolitical tensions, and macroeconomic uncertainty. Against this challenging backdrop, Prosecco DOC stands out as a notable exception, closing 2025 with growth in both production volumes and overall value.

The denomination ended the year with a total production of 667 million bottles, marking a +1.1% increase compared to 2024, for an estimated value of €3.6 billion. These figures further consolidate Prosecco DOC’s position as the world’s best-selling Italian sparkling wine, with more than 82% of production destined for foreign markets and shipments reaching 164 countries worldwide.

PRODUCTION: PROSECCO ROSÉ BECOMES A STRUCTURAL SEGMENT

Looking more closely at production data, traditional Prosecco DOC accounted for 606,891,509 bottles, while Prosecco DOC Rosé reached 60,360,239 bottles, confirming that Rosé has now become a structural and stable component of the denomination’s portfolio.

According to Giancarlo Guidolin, President of the Prosecco DOC Consortium, the results highlight the strength of the entire supply chain: “These results confirm the resilience of our denomination in a phase marked by strong global economic instability. Prosecco DOC has demonstrated solidity thanks to the cohesive work of winegrowers, winemakers, and sparkling wine houses. It is this synergy, together with our constant commitment to consumer protection, that enables us to face complex international scenarios with balance and foresight.”

EXPORTS: UNITED STATES LEADS, FRANCE ACCELERATES

On the commercial front, January–September 2025 export data show differentiated trends across key international markets. The United States remains Prosecco DOC’s leading destination, accounting for 23.8% of total exports and recording +8% growth, despite volatility linked to the introduction of customs duties.

Other major markets include:

  • United Kingdom, up +1.1%;
  • France, which surged +21.1%, secured third place and overtaken Germany, which posted a more modest +3.1% increase.
  • Encouraging signals also emerged from established and emerging markets such as Greece and Mexico, while some regions experienced contraction due to specific geopolitical and economic dynamics.

BRAND PROTECTION AND INTERNATIONAL PROMOTION

Throughout 2025, the Consortium continued its brand protection and international promotion activities without interruption. Campaigns carried out in 39 countries generated a total of 2.1 billion impressions, significantly strengthening the global visibility of the Prosecco DOC denomination.

Looking ahead, attention is already focused on 2026, when Prosecco DOC will serve as the Official Sparkling Wine Sponsor of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The event is viewed as a strategic international showcase to further enhance the link between Italian wine excellence, territory, and sustainability.
