Cioccolato di Modica PGI is soaring to international skies. The renowned Sicilian chocolate will be offered to passengers on all long-haul business class flights departing from Rome Fiumicino Airport as part of ITA Airways’ initiative, “Journey Through Excellence”.

The initiative, promoted by Italy’s flagship carrier in collaboration with Origin Italia, Fondazione Qualivita, and the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, aims to showcase Italy’s gastronomic and cultural treasures. Weekly shipments of specially wrapped Cioccolato di Modica PGI bars will reach dozens of global destinations, including Accra, Dakar, Bangkok, Delhi, Dubai, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Malé, Mauritius, San Francisco, Cairo, and Tel Aviv.

Known internationally alongside Modica’s baroque heritage, the chocolate represents the city’s identity and becomes an ambassador of Sicilian craftsmanship. Its traditional production method, unique texture, and flavor distinguish it from other chocolates worldwide.

It is truly apt to say that Modica chocolate… has taken flight! It will cross the skies of the world, spreading its rich flavor and uniqueness everywhere,” said Maria Monisteri, Mayor of Modica. “Cioccolato di Modica PGI is a hallmark of our territory and an extraordinary tool to promote it. Being part of ‘Journey Through Excellence’ alongside our national airline further confirms its value as a global symbol of Modica.”

Each chocolate bar includes a special wrapper with a QR code linking to Qualigeo’s database, providing detailed information about the chocolate’s history, characteristics, production methods, appearance, taste, and culinary applications. The chocolate bars will also be accompanied by a celebratory postcard recognizing Italian cuisine as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Consortium for the Protection of Cioccolato di Modica PGI expressed gratitude to key supporters of the initiative for promoting their product on this international platform.
