Italian mineral water exports reached an all-time high of €1.408 billion in 2024, up 28.5% from the previous year, marking the strongest export performance within the country’s food and beverage industry. Export volumes also saw significant growth, rising 12.9% year on year.

The United States remained the largest market, with exports climbing 28.5% to €476.7 million. France followed at €158.7 million, while Germany recorded €90.4 million (+36.5%) and the UK surged to €84 million (+165.8%). Collectively, the European market—including the UK—accounted for €491.7 million, underscoring sustained demand for Italian mineral water across the region.

This was no small achievement, given the sector had already posted a strong 20.9% increase in 2023, establishing itself as a leader in Italian food and beverage exports,” said Ettore Fortuna, vice-president of Mineracqua, the industry association for Italian mineral water producers. “This performance reinforces the international appeal of Italian mineral water, recognized for its quality and distinctive characteristics that make it a key part of the Made in Italy brand and the Italian way of life.”

However, Fortuna warned that potential tariffs from the Trump administration could pose a threat to growth in the U.S., the sector’s largest export market. “It is essential that Italian and European institutions work to prevent these measures, which would unfairly penalize a flagship product of Italy’s agri-food sector,” he said.
