Production of Cantuccini Toscani PGI reached 3,543 tons in 2023, with over half of sales driven by growing international demand for the typical almond biscuits from Tuscany. These figures were released by Assocantuccini, the Consortium for the Protection of Cantuccini Toscani PGI, reflecting the product’s young but robust designation in the confectionery sector. The biscuits received the European Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) mark in 2016, and the Consortium gained official recognition from the Italian Ministry of Agriculture in 2023.
Assocantuccini has recently launched an online consumer survey to enhance distribution and awareness. “This is an important opportunity to engage with the public,” said Daniele Scapigliati, President of the Consortium. “We aim to understand consumer opinions, including their consumption habits. The Tuscan cantuccino is one of Italy’s most beloved biscuits, known for its versatility in various uses and tasting occasions. This versatility likely contributes to its success. Furthermore, the significance of the PGI mark warrants a detailed examination to guide future promotional initiatives.”
