The Pecorino Romano PDO sector is experiencing a very positive moment. Success in international markets and a turnover of 6o0 million euros in 2022 show the quality of an increasingly popular product. Also thanks to the diversification of the offer and to innovation that does not abandon the typicality, as the president of the Protection Consortium Gianni Maoddi pointed out during the last member companies’ meeting.

With a price of over 114 euros per kilo, 12,000 farms, 40 dairies, 25,000 employees, and sales-expansion projects in Japan, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Italy, the sector is in excellent health with positive effects on the entire supply chain. The supply of the product also ensures good remuneration for the breeders.

As for 2023, according to initial data and forecasts, “we will have a production of 2,000 tons higher than last year’s 30,000 tons, with an increase between 5 and 7 percent,” Maoddi explained.
