Salame Felino PGI manufacturers aim to boost exports

Salame Felino PGI is a typical salami from the province of Parma, cylindrical in shape, with one end thicker than the other, a compact but not elastic consistency, and a weight between 200g and 4.5 kg. In 2021, labeled production increased by +4.7% on an annual basis. Sales, on the other hand, reached 80 million euros, up +6.7% compared to 2020. To a large extent, the increase in sales is much due to the pre-sliced product.

Exports, penalized by the pandemic emergency, account for 5% of total turnover, for a volume of about 177 tons. EU countries are the most important market with a share of 80%. The outlook for 2022 is positive.

We are confident in a significant recovery of exports,” says Umberto Boschi, President of the Consortium for the protection of Salame Felino PGI. “Export sales are in fact a very important element for all companies in our sector. As for marketing and communication activities, we will return to participate in person in trade shows, starting with Cibus, and other events. The goal is to promote the culture of our product by talking to b2b operators, foodies, and potential consumers.”
