It was supposed to be a capsule collection of GCDS for the Italian iconic pasta group Barilla. Instead, the project by Giuliano Calza, creative director of the street-wear brand from Milan, has become a video celebrating the “art” of being Italian. The short movie was shot in Hollywood with the extraordinary participation of Sophia Loren, icon and symbol of Made in Italy. “It’s ready,” says the actress in front of an inviting dish of spaghetti with tomato sauce. The vision of the director Nadia Lee Cohen has put together tradition, inclusion and modernity, all in a one minute video.
A CLOTHING CAPSULE COLLECTION FOR BARILLA
What is a capsule collection of clothing? In this case, something telling the culture of being together at the table through the immediate and recognizable language of a fashion brand.
The GCDS street-wear capsules are completed by the iconic Spaghetti Barilla n.5, in an exclusive limited edition. The historic blue-box is dressed in a new colour – fuchsia – symbol of and distinctive element of the whole collection. Everything is kept together by the presence of Sophia Loren.
To put it in the words of the director, Nadia Lee Cohen, “When I had to choose an actress for a cameo, I couldn’t think of anyone but her: Sophia is the icon par excellence of the Italian spirit, the ‘mother of Italy’ who welcomes the various members of the family with just one simple message that all Italians have heard many times: ‘Dinner is ready!’”.
