Consorzio Casalasco del Pomodoro acquires SAC

Consorzio Casalasco del Pomodoro – an Italian leading company in the production and processing of industrial tomatoes, with a turnover of 240 million euro in 2017 for over 560,000 tonnes of fresh processed tomatoes – has acquired the majority of the Piedmont based company SAC. In recent years, Consorzio Casalasco has started an important growth process. The goal is to become the Italian reference company in the canned tomato sector, both through its own brands (Pomì, Pomito, De Rica) and on behalf of the large brand and private label industry.

CONSORZIO CASALASCO STRENGTHENS ITS SUPPLY CHAIN

After the consolidation of its corporate base and some important investments made in the industrial and production chain in its plants in Rivarolo del Re (Cremona), Fontanellato (Parma), and Gariga di Podenzano (Piacenza), Consorzio Casalasco del Pomodoro continues to strengthen its international distribution chain. A strategy that is being achieved through the signing of agreements and the acquisition of commercial companies that operate successfully on foreign markets of greatest interest, thus bringing together supply and demand in the sector. This project includes the establishment of Pomì Usa Inc. for the US market in 2009.

SAC FOCUSES ON INTERNATIONAL MARKETS

With a turnover of around 40 million euro in 2017, SAC has always operated on the international markets: in particular in France, the Netherlands, and Belgium. Here it distributes mainly tomato derivatives, sauces and condiments as well as fruit syrup, rice and legumes both under its own brand (Victoria) and private labels for the retail and food service channels. The company based in Carmagnola (Turin), has also a sales office in Paris. In fact, in the sector of private labels’ basic tomato products (pulp, pasta, concentrates and peeled tomatoes) SAC is among the top three players on the French market, with a share that varies between 35% and 40% of the total.

THE DEVELOPMENT PLAN

The acquisition of SAC – said Costantino Vaia, general manager of Consorzio Casalasco del Pomodorois part of a strategic development plan that provides for partnerships and acquisitions of consolidated companies already present on international markets. We are convinced that combining Casalasco’s know-how with SAC’s knowledge of the market is the first step to become one of the main reference groups in France”.
