Fratelli Carli presents ‘Merletti di Genova’

A new recipe - inspired by classic Ligurian dry pastry - that completes the range of sweets of the Italian olive oil company arrives at Cibus 2018
Fratelli Carli presents ‘Merletti di Genova’

Fratelli Carli – the historical Italian olive oil company based in Imperia that since 1911 has been producing and distributing its products by correspondence in Italy and in various countries around the world – on the occasion of Cibus 2018 pays homage to one of the classics of Ligurian dry pastry: the canestrello. Made with an exclusive recipe that bases its originality in the use of Carli Olive Oil, and not just butter as tradition dictates, the Merletti di Genova (‘laces of Genoa’) are biscuits in shortcrust pastry kneaded with care and selected ingredients, from flour to lemon juice pressed at the time, and baked in the oven until the beginning of browning. Removed still clear from the oven, they maintain their intrinsic, almost soft crispness. Olive oil makes the taste even more balanced, perfect and harmonious in sweetness. The flavor is that of the pastry of the past, the pastry of Sunday: simple, tasty, fragrant, and indulgent.

Characteristics

Each 200g pack, with twelve biscuits divided into two trays, contains a transparent sachet of icing sugar. Wheat flour, sugar, Carli Olive Oil, butter, egg yolks, lemon juice, yeast: these are the simple ingredients of Merletti. With an eight-month shelf life, they are born as pastries to be consumed alone or as a snack, at the end of a meal or at teatime. Sublime if dusted with powdered sugar, highly appreciated in combination with coffee or a sweet liqueur wine for meditation, they are perfect as a gift idea all year round. The launch price for Merletti – available exclusively in the 10 Fratelli Carli stores – is 3.40 euro for the 200g pack.
