Organized by the Permanent Mission of Italy at the UN, the “Italian Food Festival” from December 7-11 will propose an accurate selection of the best Italian food and drinks in the Delegate Dining Room at the UN headquarters.
For five days, the best Italian food products will be showcased at the United Nations in New York as part of celebrations for the 60th anniversary of Italy’s accession to the world’s most important organization.
The last time a similar initiative took place at the prestigious complex overlooking the East River was in 1995, the organizers said. Since then, Americans have developed a deeper knowledge of the quality and variety of the Italian cuisine, but the festival promises to surprise food lovers with an accurate selection proposed by five renowned Italian chefs, including Filippo La Mantia, Sonia Balacchi and Michele Biagiola, and curated by Italia di Gusto, a franchising company specialized in the selection of the finest Italian products.
During the festival, UN officials, guests and journalists will have the opportunity to discover and taste a variety of food and drinks coming from the different Italian regions, each with its century-old tradition passed down from generations.
Such traditions include and integrate the Mediterranean Diet, recognized by the UN as intangible culture heritage of humanity and known for its balanced, wholesome mix of olive oil, cereals, dairy fish, meat and vegetables. Such a unique set of skills, knowledge, and community rituals are reflected in the UN goals of a healthy and sustainable nutrition, recently reaffirmed during Expo Milano.
