Quality Food Group is among the companies that have taken a stand on the palm oil issue and has for some time started to remove it from some products and to replace it with other oils.
“The products concerned – explains Bruno Rossetto, eco of Quality Food Group – are those from our healthy line, plus some made for private label. For our classical references, however, the market demand is oriented towards low price, and palm oil definitely costs less than other oils, as well as giving texture, crispness and a neutral flavor. The use of olive oil in crackers has been widely used for some time, but for biscuits the taste difference is significant, especially if the fat content is more than 20 percent. The best solution is to maintain the taste to which the consumer is accustomed, rather than carry out a partial replacement. What we try to do is use less saturated fat whilst still obtaining a good result”.
The heatlhy product line made by the company from Veneto is made up of a milk or egg free biscuits in single portions, gluten-free biscuits and, to be launched in November, a gluten free range of sweet and savory products. Other products in the portfolio use sustainable palm oil that is Rspo (Roundtable on sustainable palm oil) certified.
