The EU remains the primary export market, with France and Germany leading, followed by Spain, the UK, and Belgium. Spain, in particular, recorded a +13.9% increase, marking its strongest growth to date.
Guido Veroni, president of the Italian Consortium for the Protection of Mortadella Bologna, said: “We are pleased with the strong performance of Mortadella Bologna PGI in 2024, despite a challenging economic environment in which rising grocery costs have forced Italian households to scale back food purchases. Nonetheless, both production and sales continued to grow, largely driven by international demand. The most notable gains were in the UK (+8.3%), France (+8.7%), Switzerland (+7.5%), and Spain (+13.9%), key markets where we are investing in structured, EU-backed promotional programs.”
