On the sidelines of the Sainsbury’s Brand Conference, organized by Atlante – a company that has been operating for over 20 years in the large-scale food distribution sector as a strategic partner for the main Italian and foreign chains – Italianfood.net talked with Pastificio Liguori, a historic pasta factory in Gragnano, now a supplier to the British chain.
“It is a big challenge for us to become one of Sainsbury’s suppliers – says Pasquale Casillo, General Manager International Markets & Private Labels from Pastificio Liguori – and it took a lot of time to prepare ourselves for this ‘journey’. Finally, Sainsbury’s will have PGI Italian pasta on their shelves. Pasta from Gragnano is in fact the only kind of pasta which can boast a certified PGI European certification. This pasta – a new entry for the UK market – will be on the shelves from September-October. The main challenge will be to explain to consumers what an opportunity they have now” – Casillo explains.
