From the United States to Canada, from Japan to Hong Kong, Australia and Singapore, Italian olive oil currently enjoys pole position. Meanwhile in Brazil, China, Korea, India and Russia, it is in the top four in terms of market share, and holds the number one spot in terms of extra virgin olive oil quality and export value. UNITED STATES – Italy holds a 55% share of the American olive oil market. This was up by 2% in 2013 compared to 2012.
AUSTRIA – Italy is in the number one spot with a market share of 48% in 2013.
BRAZIL – Italy is the fourth largest virgin olive oil supplier to the Brazilian market, after Portugal, Spain and Argentina, and holds a market share of 7%. However, recent analysis of Italian import volumes indicates an increase of 2% in 2013 compared with 2012. The trends in sales values of Italian oil are similar.
CANADA – Italy is in pole position with 2013 market share equal to 70%, a trend which has continued to grow since 2009.
CHINA – Italy is the second largest supplier of virgin olive oils. In 2013 it held a market share of 21%. The trend looks similar in terms of sales value with an increase of 16% in the value of Chinese imports of Italian oils in 2013 compared with 2012.
KOREA – In Korea Italy is the second largest supplier of virgin olive oils and quantities of imports rose by 14% in 2013 compared with 2012. Similar growth trends can be seen in terms of sales values which were up 37% against 2012.
JAPAN – Italy is the number one virgin olive oil supplier with an attributed market share of 45%. The year 2013 saw an increase of 6% in quantities of oil imported by Japan compared with the previous year.
HONG KONG – Italy remains the number one virgin olive oil supplier on the Hong Kong market, with steady figures in the comparison between 2013 and 2012.
INDIA – Italy is the second largest supplier of virgin olive oil to the Indian market.
RUSSIA – Italy is the second largest supplier, with a market share of 26%. The amount of Italian oil imported went up by 18% in 2013 against 2012. Similar results were seen in terms of sales values.
SINGAPORE – Italy is the number one virgin olive oil supplier, with positive growth seen in 2013 compared with 2012 both in terms of sales volumes and sales values.
