The Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO sector has received double positive recognition from the latest sales figures. The annual meeting of Assolatte (the association of the Italian dairy industry) confirmed the leading role of buffalo mozzarella among the great Italian PDO cheeses. In fact, in 2022 its production was the only one growing (+3.8% compared to 2021), along with that of Taleggio PDO. Despite the current difficulties related to the sharp rise in inflation and the war in Ukraine, buffalo mozzarella is dominating the markets.

In fact, according to the District Monitor of the Italian bank Intesa Sanpaolo, export sales of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO are +30.2 percent higher in 2022 compared to 2021. In an overall positive scenario, data from the analysis show a +12.8 percent growth in exports of Italian agri-food districts year on year, with a total value of more than 25 billion euros.
“These are incredible results that spur us on to do better and better, even now when we still face so many difficulties starting with rising production costs. We will continue to focus on the distinctive elements of our product: quality and the link with the territory,” says Domenico Raimondo, President of the Consortium for the Protection of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO.
