A new law in Italy is passed to finance agri-food supply chain contracts

The funds are provided by the Next Generation EU and can be used for investments in farming and food processing, but also for promotion, research and development

The Italian law governing the criteria, methods and procedures for the implementation of agri-food supply chain and district contracts provided for by the Next Generation EU complementary fund is officially in force. This measure will make it possible to concretely implement the supply chain contracts, defining in detail the preliminary procedure, the evaluation procedure for the selection of projects, and the methods of financing.

At the disposal of agri-food, fishing, forestry and floriculture companies there are 1.2 billion euros. These funds can be used for investments in tangible and intangible assets in farms, in the processing and marketing of agricultural products, in the participation of producers in high-quality schemes, in the promotion of agricultural products, and finally in research and development in the agricultural sector.

These measures make it possible to facilitate production chains through capital grants and subsidized financing. They are intended to invest in processes of reorganization of the relationships between all the various players in the supply chain, also in light of the technological, digital, and environmental transformation taking place in the various sectors. All this is aimed at greater integration, the creation of better market relations, and positive effects on agricultural production.
