In fact, it is mainly thanks to exports that the Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO has seen constant double-digit growth in recent years. So much so that in 2019 the export value reached 34% of the total market value, reaching over 137 million euros, with an increase of +31.4% compared to the previous year.
The main destination countries have always been, and remain, European ones. France and Germany come in first position: together they account for almost half of total exports. Far behind we find Spain, just under 10%. The first exports destination country beyond European borders is the US (in sixth position), which in 2019 accounted for a 6.6% share of total exports.
With regard to exports, there is a renewed interest in the request for amendment of the specification made a couple of years ago by the protection Consortium. This will give permission to produce abroad ingredients that are conceived to be sold frozen.
