Asiago PDO: a promotional tour in Japan

From dedicated events to international food fairs, a new season of enhancement and promotion has just started for the typical PDO cheese from north-eastern Italy

The protection Consortium of Asiago PDO cheese has just launched a new season of enhancement and promotion in Japan. Until March, 14 many events events will take place, aimed at making people appreciate the value of natural food and the nutritional properties of Asiago PDO.

The campaign will get to the heart of the matter with the participation to the EU Geographical Indications Cheese Festival, an event entirely dedicated to the promotion of European cheeses. On March 14th there will be the RECIPEBLOG meeting, dedicated to about forty of the most famous Japanese journalists and bloggers.

EU GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS CHEESE FESTIVAL

Since February 1, 2019, Asiago PDO enjoys full recognition and protection in Japan. To strengthen this result, the Consortium will attend the EU Geographical Indications Cheese Festival.

Supported by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, with the participation of representatives of the European Commission and the Italian Embassy in Japan, the event will focus on the value of protected origin production and the nutritional characteristics of products such as Asiago PDO, that is increasingly appreciated by Japanese consumers for its intrinsic naturalness.

ASIAGO PDO CHEESE INCREASINGLY APPRECIATED IN JAPAN

The organoleptic characteristics and nutritional contribution of Asiago cheese are finding growing appreciation in Japan. This is confirmed by an increase in sales (in the period November 2018/November 2019) of 13% in volume.

On March, 14 the Consortium will organize a meeting in Tokyo with about forty of the most famous and influential journalists and food bloggers in order to make the production of origin, its aging, the different uses in cooking and possible combinations with Japanese cuisine known.

This new mission in Japan – says the president of the protection Consortium, Fiorenzo Rigoniaims to strengthen the presence of Asiago PDO in a strategic area of the world. Over the next three years, we will be present there with an articulated plan of activities, named ‘Asia Enjoy European Quality Food’, co-funded by the EU. The quality of Asiago PDO combined with the full implementation of the EPA economic partnership agreement are excellent ways to create interesting development opportunities in Japan”.
