Italian bakery group Colussi strengthens its growth path by taking over the majority shareholding of La Suissa, a historic Piedmontese chocolate producer. The operation is aimed at preserving and maintaining a strong relationship with La Suissa’s founding family, which will be an important part of the development project.
COLUSSI ENTERING CHOCOLATE SECTOR
The acquisition is particularly significant as it marks Colussi’s entry into the world of chocolate with a partner of excellence. La Suissa is in fact a leading company in the sector, able to win the trust of the public and professionals in its almost 40 years of activity. This is marked by attention to the choice of raw materials and by a qualified, passionate and competent staff who is able to combine the Italian craftsmanship with the use of advanced technology systems.
La Suissa production – mainly under its own brand but also on behalf of third parties – is concentrated in the almost 10,000 square metre plant in Arquata Scrivia, in Piedmont, a land with a historical vocation and a great tradition in chocolate production. Exports reach 35% and the consolidated turnover in 2018 was almost 17 million euros, marking a constant double-digit growth.
SUSTAINABLE GROWTH
The acquisition by Colussi group will allow further growth, with the possibility of strengthening distribution in Italy and abroad and developing new projects. Also thanks to UNISIG, the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo (Bra, Cuneo) – created and managed by Slow Food – of which the group has been a strategic partner for years, in the name of respect for tradition, know-how and sustainability.
