Barilla has unveiled a microwaveable pasta called Barilla Ready Pasta. It makes fully cooked «al dente» pasta in 60 seconds and it comes in four types: Elbows, Gemelli, Penne and Rotini. The pasta is made with three ingredients: fully cooked pasta, extra virgin olive oil and a pinch of sea salt. It has no preservatives and is non-Gmo. It’s great for people who are short on time or looking for a delicious meal option that doesn’t require extra clean up, said Barilla Americas’ Vice President of Marketing Melissa Tendick, citing as examples lunch at work, an after-school snack or an easy, delicious dinner at home.
How to use it
To make the pasta, customers first kneed the Ready Pasta pouch and then tear the pouch open about 1 inch (2,54 cm). The pouch is then microwaved for 60 seconds. After cooking people can add a cooked protein, such as a chicken or shrimp. It’s also possible to add cheese, basil, tomatoes pasta sauce and other extras.
Non-Gmo
When it comes to using Genetically modified organisms (Gmo’s) in the agricultural and food industry, people are still concerned about the possible risks involved with this type of application, and are wondering just what sort of real opportunities do actually exist. Barilla has therefore decided to refrain from the use of genetically modified ingredients, guaranteeing not to use Gmo ingredients for all its products. This is also the case of microwaveable Barilla Ready Pasta. In order to achieve these objectives, Barilla adopts for all its products the European Regulations which, in regard to communication parameters, obligations and transparency, are the most strict and effective that exist today. In order to carry out this commitment Barilla applies rigorous procedures regarding the selection, purchase and management of the hundreds of raw materials used and the related production chains.
