The project Casa del Prosecco aims to promote Prosecco Pdo “in the field”, thus guaranteeing the provision of information in Chinese to operators and consumers alike who can benefit from it by referring directly to the office or participating in numerous training activities that will be undertaken.
PROSECCO PDO, THE NEW CHALLENGES IN CHINA – The opening event of Casa del Prosecco Pdo in Xi’an was held live via a video link by president Stefano Zanette. “It is no coincidence that we have chosen China with the conviction that it will be able to give much satisfaction to our producers who deserve to be accompanied on this challenge with guaranteed institutional support. We hope that others will follow our example” “Currently,” says director Luca Giavi, “our top three markets are the United Kingdom (33.6%), the U.S. (18.0%), and Germany (17.1%), which alone is responsible for around 70% of the entire export quota. The Chinese market currently accounts for only 1% of our exports and we expect it to triple within the next three years thanks to this initiative”.”We are proud that the Consortium of Prosecco Doc has chosen our city as the first destination of such an important and ambitious project,” declared the Dean of the Oenology Faculty at the University of Xi’An during the web connection where he presented the training course on Prosecco Pdo that will take place next April.
IMPORT OF WINE ON THE RISE IN XI’AN – Being the protagonist of a strong development supported by the Chinese government, Xi’an is still a relatively young market compared to front-ranking cities, such as Shanghai and Beijing, and has a huge potential that has yet to be exploited. As a matter of fact, together with the cities of Chongqing and Chengdu, it constitutes a new strategic economic zone for the development of western China. Encouraged by the great tourism industry, the import of wine has dramatically increased in recent years in Xi’an. Located in the heart of China, the city of Xi’an is currently the most developed city in Northwest China. Today it is a modern city of 8.5 million people, located in a predominantly rural area of more than 200 million inhabitants.
