There has been a growth of 9% in exports in the Italian food&wine sector, which in 2015 ranges among the best-performing sectors, also thanks to the Expo. This is what can be deduced from the Istat data referring to November 2015, highlighting the concrete possibility that “Made in Italy”-branded agribusiness products can reach the record high of 36 billion euros. The ‘hunger’ for Italian food abroad has been felt through increases ranging from 11% for fruits and vegetables to 10% for olive oil; from + 9% for pasta to + 6% for wine, the latter of which has reached ahistorical record with a preliminary annual turnover of 5.4 billion achieved across national borders, (data for the first ten months of 2015). It is a trend that has been forwardedby the positive economic conditions owing to global recovery and favourable exchange rates testifying to the high growth opportunities that authentic Italian food can still seize abroad. The most exported product from Italy to the world is wine, while the countries where Italian food is most prevalent are those of the European Union, constituting two-thirds of sales and the U.S., representing the largest market outside the EU with an increase of 15%. The only discordant note is the collapse of Italian agribusiness exports to Russia marking a decline of 26% due to the embargo.
