Over the past three years, Tesco’s suppliers had reformulated over 4,200 products to reduce sugar, salt and fat. The retailer has already reformulated children’s soft drinks. It is expected that the products involved will include the food and drinks identified as providing the highest levels of children’s dietary sugar intake in a recent report from Public Health England (PHE).
It said the biggest contributors of sugar intake in the UK for children aged four to 18 years of age are soft drinks, biscuits, buns, cakes, pastries and puddings; sugar and chocolate confectionery; and fruit juice, yogurt, ice cream, dairy desserts and breakfast cereals.
