Under his leadership Sainsbury’s has become one of the most important retailer in the UK landscape. By the time he left 10 years later he had increased shopper numbers from 14m to 24m and achieved ten years of consistent profits growth. Justin King who stepped down as ceo of Sainsbusry’s in the summer, has spoken at the Retail Loyalty Congress 2015 held in Barcelona, pointing out that a good retailer must always listen to its customers. The decision to invest in convenience stores and in online commerce allowed Sainsbury’s to outperform during the last 10 years. Speaking to Foodweb, King explained the importance of creating value through a high quality range of products expecially fresh food.
